This Saturday, UConn Law students headed to the XL Center to watch the UConn Women’s Basketball season opener thanks to a new Student Bar Association (SBA) ticket program.
The SBA will provide 40 tickets to each women’s basketball game taking place at the XL Center for the 2013-14 season.
2L Class Representative Brian Alosco said this year the SBA Social Committee wanted to garner support for the lady huskies, whose athletic support is typically lower than their male counterparts.
“The SBA Social Committee tries to sponsor a sporting event every year, so this year we wanted to try something new,” he said. “Our women’s basketball team is defending a national championship, so we really thought it would be great to help the law community be a part of that.”
The program is designed to allow as many different students as possible to attend the games. Alosco said this past Saturday’s game against crosstown rival the University of Hartford was well attended.
“The student section is extremely close to the court, so we were able to get fantastic seats,” he said. “It was a lot of fun to hang out with fellow students and watch our school’s successful program in action.”
SBA representatives will hand out tickets the week leading up to each game.
“We’re hoping the great turn out continues for the rest of the season,” Alosco said.
